Repost for the weekday crowd: Today I met up with AestheticsInMotion, Wrong Wheel Drive (41%) and Wrong Wheel Drive (41%)‘s girlfriend. It isn’t often I have the biggest and most powerful car...

I left my home at 5:50am and returned at 9:09pm after 462km/287 miles of driving.

I did have gopro footage, but accidently... deleted it. As I am an idiot. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

The ND RF Miata is stunning. People in the park seemed genuinely happy to see the two Miata’s with their tops down amongst the snow, even taking pictures.

FYI, if you use Windows on your PC, you MAY be able to use a tool like Recuva to retrieve some of the videos you deleted. You may need a deep search on the card though if the normal search finds nothing.

Looks like an awesome time! There are some gorgeous shots there as well....kudos!

While this RF is beautiful and wayyyyy faster than my NB, it just doesn't have the same character really. It's a better car in every way and in many ways it's still a better Miata too. But just the way it accelerates without much drama (probably due to the stock exhaust and transmission) is just not as exciting. And the top down isn't really the full open top experience. I've gone soft so I was "cold" in the 40-50 degree weather outside and it was nice having almost no wind, having heated seats and strong heat blowing. I still think I'd rather have an FRS or a Cayman if I really were to move on from my Miata.

Glad to meet you! What an excellent way to spend a day in the PNW. I definitely agree with you that I love how we basically experienced every weather condition between warm sunlight, dense fog, snow, misty rain, and patchy misty/ fog. Hopefully you might be interested in the Socal Oppo rally, even with your disdain of that area lol. But Capt Dale has some amazing stops planned so it should show off some cooler locales than the desert!

Turo has some excellent options in LA. That’s where I have rented all of the fun stuff. Cayman, S2000, FRS, mini Cooper S, 370z, c7 Corvette, and mk7 GTI were all of the notable ones that I’ve gotten and all of them were under $100 a day. Mileage restrictions suck most of the time but some have 200+ per day which is usually plenty.

And aside from waiting over an hour for our food at dinner yesterday, the rest is going well! At least our food ended up being free but man was that a wait lol.

No, that's not until next year's model right? This was an RF with like 12k miles on it so it's not new enough for that.

Oh I guess it is wasn’t sure if it was resleased yet. I know people have been reviewing them. But even still, I’m with you. I like my Miata and I’m content making it better and better as I can afford.  A cayman tho... that would be dope.  How are those on the used market?  I assume they have held their value

I've seen the Cayman S run for about $20k which seems attainable to me at some point. I like to think that I could replace my Miata but every time I get in and go for a drive I'm sold again on keeping it forever. I'd probably be best served just picking up a cleaner NB some day and build it again exactly as I have it now. I'm just lazy and will keep this one at least until the motor croaks or my subframe brakes into a bunch of pieces making my sway bar useless.

Hahaha. Fair. I love my na and while I keep improving it, something else seems to pop up as a need. Like. The chassis isn’t stiff enough...  I install a roll bar... oh shit now I need a seat to lower me away from the roll bar... oh shit now I need a steering wheel to make getting in and out of the car easier with the racing seat... then oh wait now I can’t take my top off with out removing my seat... oh well maybe just bolt the top down. And so on. What I am ending up with is a Miata that is an answer to a simple question: how do I make a 20 something year old car a relevant sports car for me?

I love the roads out there, looks like a fun time! I had weekend plans to meet my parents in the San Juans but one of these days  I’ll have a free weekend and I can show you all the definition of sharp handling in my 30-year-old SUV with two solid axles, tired shocks and zero sway bars.

Unrelated, question about Turo. Have you looked in to insurance coverage much at all on those? Most insurance policies specifically say they don’t cover programs like Turo. Do you just get coverage through Turo, and if so does it seem pretty comprehensive/worth the $$$?

So many more interesting options on there but have always been a little hesitant as far as risk exposure goes. Have you had any incidents/damage you’ve had to deal with?

I've just gotten the insurance through turo since it's cheap enough and absolves me of the full responsibility. It's an expensive deductible (like $1000 I think?) but that seems reasonable for how little it costs. I have no idea how it actually works since I've never had an issue though. But I've also never really even been in an accident on my own vehicle that involved me being at fault so I'm pretty unfamiliar with insurance.
